Editorial Guidelines
Thanks for your interest in writing for the Wellness Coalition’s eZine and your willingness to share your expertise.   Here are some guidelines for writing and submitting articles for our consideration:

Format   Email your article to us as a Microsoft Word attachment.  If you don’t have Word, you can copy and paste the article into the body of your email.

Length   The length of your article should be between 400 and 600 words. If it is longer than 600 words, talk with us about dividing your topic into a series.

Content   As you write, remember the WCA vision statement:  “The Wellness Coalition is the trusted resource for total body wellness...improving the quality of every human life."  Your article should:

Introduce a challenge or problem that our readers (or someone in their families) may face;

Outline a plan of action (steps they can take) to prevent and/or correct the problem (this
  could include a list of foods to eat or avoid, exercise routines, tools or resources to help them reach their goals, etc.);

Be written in a conversational style that is easy for our readers to understand.

Pictures   Email pictures in the following formats: jpeg, gif.  If you need to insert pictures into your Word document to illustrate placement, make sure you also attach the pictures separately in one of the above formats.  We can also accept pictures on CD.

Editorial purity   We do not promote businesses, individuals of products in our articles.  Our goal is to give readers accurate, unbiased information for improving their health, fitness and overall wellbeing.  At the bottom of every article, we give readers information for contacting you if they'd like more information about your products or services.  The newsletter and website also offer your business other opportunities for promotion like the Sponsor Directory, Coalition Spotlight and Calendar of Events.

Citation of sources   Please provide sources for any ideas that are not your own or are not common knowledge.  The following guidelines for citing sources can be found in their entirety at http://www.dartmouth.edu/~sources/about/when.html

Cite sources for all verbatim quotations of two or more consecutive words.

Cite sources from which you paraphrase or summarize facts or ideas.

Cite sources for ideas or information that could be regarded as common knowledge but which
  you think your reader might still find unfamiliar.

Spiritual topics   While the Wellness Coalition recognizes the impact of spirituality on maintaining a healthy mind and body, we reserve the right to turn down articles that represent the beliefs of one religion or religious practice.  Our mission is to offer resources and tools to all people for achieving total body wellness.

Deadlines   The deadline for article submissions is the 2nd Friday of the month (approximately one week prior to distribution).

We are trying to outline the editorial content of our eZines several months in advance, so we welcome your story ideas.  You may also submit articles anytime to be considered for upcoming issues.

If you have a question about these guidelines or about an article you've been assigned to write, call Kay Lewis at 704-806-6293 or email kay@wellnesscoalition.com.
