I recently read an article about the effort and planning that goes into feeding a nourishing diet to our troops. It explained that, over the years, the armed forces menu has changed to keep up with our knowledge of nutrition. That menu currently includes more than 1,700 standardized recipes designed to provide tasty meals that supply adequate calories as well as meet the nutrition initiatives of the Office of the Surgeon General for lower salt, lower fat, higher complex carbohydrates and more fiber. Bottom line: if we want a powerful and successful military, we must insure that our troops are well nourished and provided with healthy food choices.
