If a medication that you need tends to make you gain weight, what should you do? —Janet in Asheboro, NC
Janet, the drug categories that are notorious for causing weight gain are antidepressants, antipsychotics, blood pressure medication, and steroids. If you are on these medications, the best thing you can do is maintain an exercise program and healthy eating plan. Keep in mind that everyone metabolizes (breaks down) medications differently. You also may want to talk to your doctor and see if you can switch to another drug.
